Selected markers of inflammation in patients with type 2 diabetes

摘要
Background. Type 2 diabetes is a disease of complex etiology in which an important role is played by proinflammatory cytokines. It is well known that increased levels of inflammatory markers in type 2 diabetes are also associated with obesity and overweight. Material and methods. 77 patients were examined who were divided into two groups: patients suffering from type 2 diabetes and control group. In both groups, the concentration of CRP in serum using an immunoturbidimetric latex particle-enhanced (Roche Diagnostic) and interleukin-23 (IL-23) by ELISA. Results. In patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, the concentration of CRP is significantly higher than in the control group. However, both groups showed similar concentration of interleukin-23. Conclusions. Hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes is a factor inducing chronic local inflammation in vessel walls, causing an increase in serum CRP, without affecting the concentration of interleukin-23.
