摘要
One of the hypotheses underpinning this article, consisting of two parts, is that the drama is a neglected genre in the Afrikaans literary field. When recently published literary histories in Afrikaans are scrutinized, it is evident that far less space is devoted to the drama than allocated to the other two primary genres, prose and poetry. That this is not only due to the drama production as a whole being of an inferior quality, can be deduced when the treatment of specific authors is investigated: often their dramas are almost neglected. Another hypothesis is that publication is a prerequisite for any text to be canonized, even in the case of dramas that are destined to be produced on stage. In this two-part article (of which this is the second instalment) the drama oeuvre of George Weideman is taken as a case study in order to test the aforementioned hypotheses. In part two the focus is on his dramas proper and the conclusion is that his is a valuable contribution to the sparse drama corpus in Afrikaans.
