摘要：
At present, the data models of various CAD / CAM systems are quite different, it is dificult to exchange information between dissimilar systems and to integrate CAD / CAM systems. As such a complete, consistent and cohesive globle model for product data becomes key issue. In this paper, we introduce a MPIM (Mechanical Product Information Model) which can completely define the product data from designing to manufacturing. In addition, we described MPIM' s supporting system MEDES (MEchanical product Data Exchange System), which is an integrated tool set for building PDES / STEP level 1, level 2 and level 3 implementations. At the end of the paper, we described an integrated CAD / CAM system architecture.
