摘要
On August 24th, 2017 the legal situation changed substantially in one key aspect. Ever since that date, witnesses have been required to appear before the police and give a statement. This change in law has had an impact on behavior during house searches. Now, not only defendants but also witnesses may be subjected to searches. It is still the case that it is usually better to start by exercising one's right to silence. Enforcing this right in practice, however, will become more difficult in future than it was in the past. Civic courage, a rudimentary knowledge of civil rights and the willingness to exercise these rights have become more important than ever. This includes insisting on the presence of a lawyer for the witness.
