CONTRACEPTIVE CARE IN A GENERAL-PRACTICE

A study of contraception in a general practice was undertaken in order to establish how comprehensive was the contraceptive care provided. The population investigated consisted of women registered with the practice and aged between 15 and 44 inclusive. Eighty six per cent of women were either having contraceptive care provided or did not need it. Nothing was recorded in the notes of 14 per cent of women. This does not necessarily mean that they are inadequately protected against unwanted pregnancy. However, this group will be followed up to elicit more data and ensure availability of care. These results refute the anecdotal claims sometimes made by some supporters of family planning clinics that women must always be inadequately served by their general practitioners in the matter of contraception.
