Anxiety and depression in the diabetic child and family styles

Faced with a chronic illness in a child the entire family system is altered. The patient is still a child, does not understand the reason for this disease, must learn to live with something that prevents you from doing the same life as other children. Parents spend to have a quiet life to have to be very aware of the child. The objective of this research was twofold analyze the levels of anxiety and depression in children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) and study the relationship between these psychopathologies and family styles. Participants in the study were 27 patients aged 6 to 17 diagnosed with DM1. Scale identification of family educational practices, PEF (Alonso-Garcia and RomanSanchez, 2003) and Questionnaire adaptive response to disease in diabetic patients, CECAD (Questionnaire: For the measurement of the variables under study two instruments were used Educational-Clinical Anxiety and Depression). (Lozano Gonzalez Garcia-Fernandez Cueto and Lozano, 2007). Overall, the results suggest that participants with low levels of depression and anxiety. The most common style of education is balanced, and there seems no relation between psychopathology and educational style.
