NEW FOCUSES ON TRADE-POLICY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR PERIPHERAL COUNTRIES

The work reviews first the conceptions regarding the role of the State in trade policies seet forth by different schools of thought and attempts go further on these ideas taking into account the main changes that took place recently as well as the particular realities of the peripheral countries. Then it considers the different positions regarding the ability of the state to efficiently design and implement those policies arguing that this ability may be modified all throughout the very process. Therefore the development of efficient institutions becomes one of the key factors to ensure the saccesful implementation of the policies discussed in the first section.
