Use of the Dspace tool for information management: implementation of an institutional repository

The new context imposes on the institutions the vital need to have adequate communication infrastructures that allow them to obtain the necessary data. Institutional repositories play an important role due to the need for storage that has arisen over time, that is, the large amount of documentation, so the making of these facilitates a good performance in the daily activities of its users. This type of repository allows to know the scientific production of the institution, makes known its researchers, and acts as a conservative of the activity of the organization. This paper deals with the use of the Dspace computing tool for electronic information management in institutions. Its main objective is to implement a repository in the Faculty of Computer Science and Exact Sciences to achieve a fast and efficient search and retrieval. As a theoretical and methodological basis for the implementation of the institutional repository, the following elements were assumed: stages of selection, processing, storage and retrieval of information; the principles for the construction of institutional repositories in Cuba and the technical guide to make repositories. The software is an effective tool for information management, it provides institutions with a comprehensive solution for the management, processing and protection of electronic and / or digital documents, starting with the construction of a repository, which expedites the search and retrieval of information. As a result of the research, an institutional repository was created using the software Dspace.
