Molar Pregnancy in a 55-Year-Old Woman

Background: Gestational trophoblastic disease generally occurs in woman of reproductive age and is extremely rare in postmenopausal woman. There is a high rate of malignant sequale after molar evacuation in this age group and, therefore, primary hysterectomy is the treatment recommended. Case: We report on a 55-year-old woman with gestational trophoblastic disease. Conclusions: To our knowledge, our case is the fifth description in the world literature of a benign complete hyaditidiform mole in a postmenopausal woman. It is important to maintain a high level of suspicion for the diagnosis of gestational trophoblastic disease in an elderly woman, as diagnosis can often be missed as in our case.
