Environmental citizenship: challenge, tool or ethical commitment for environmental education?

摘要
This paper seeks to analyze and reflect briefly on the ideas behind the concept of environmental citizenship, both in its historical aspects, as semantic and epistemological, to decode and address this political dimension of environmental education. Try to challenge preconceptions and assumptions which are in the public imagination when it comes to citizenship, to achieve then identify what EA methodologies are essential to building a real sustentabilidades from exercise of environmental citizenship, positioning on a conception of EA and evolution by integrating social and community dimensions. We seek to determine the basis for the construction of a critical exercise of environmental citizenship, especially given the challenges posed by consumerism and individualism dominant and hegemonic, supported by the globalizing neoliberal development paradigm that characterizes our way of relating between people and with each component of our planet, trying to build sustainability today, here and now.
