EVALUATION OF THE CAPACITANCE TECHNIQUE AS A METHOD FOR DYNAMICALLY MEASURING SOIL-WATER CONTENT

摘要
A capacitative sensor that can be used to measure soil water content from a moving tractor is described. The sensor was shaped similar to a narrow tine consisting of two capacitor electrodes separated by an insulator. The capacitor formed part of an oscillator with a frequency of around 150 MHz, which reduced with increasing soil water content. The sensor was found to give calibrations that were affected to a certain extent by soil bulk density. © 1992 Silsoe Research Institute.
