READING COMPREHENSION OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

摘要
This article "Compreens (a) over tildeo leitora de alunos do Ensino Medio"( Reading Comprehension of high school sutendts) reports a research which had the objectives of evaluating the students'levels of reading comprehension in high school and examine the evaluative power of five reading comprehension tests - Cloze, Multiple Choice, Questionnaire, True or False, and Summary. The participants were 457 high school students (about 30 students per type of test and grade) of a private school in Porto Alegre. The data were statistically analyzed through T-Student test and Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient. The results indicate, for the performance of the students, the growth of scores in reading comprehension with a significant difference amount the grades of high school. Referring to the evaluative power of the tests, the results show the preference for the Summary, Cloze and Multiple Choice.
