We study the characteristics of the radiation force acting on a dielectric microsphere near the focus of a plane polarized TEM00 Gaussian beam. These characteristics include the magnitude and direction of the force as a function of refractive index relative to the sorrounding medium, the dependence of the force magnitude on the wavelength. axial distance and sphere radius corresponding to the two independent states of plane polarization.
