DISSEMINATED ASPERGILLUS-TERREUS INFECTION IN A DOG

A case of disseminated aspergillosis caused by Aspergillus terreus in a five-year-old Labrador retriever is described. Clinical presentation was that of severe acute renal failure resulting in death within one day of hospitalization. The causative organism was observed in histopathological examination of multiple organs including prostate and kidney and was recovered in culture of the kidney, bladder, and urine. Comparison is made to other reported cases of disseminated aspergillosis in the canine literature, with discussion of predisposing factors, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
