Sports-related concussion frequently happens and continues to increase. It mainly occurs in contact sports, such as hockey, soccer, American football, handball, basketball and martial arts and can have considerable short and long-term consequences. On the basis of new scientific findings sports-related concussion has attracted a lot of attention internationally. Germany has already introduced guidelines for dealing with traumatic brain injuries in both leisure and competitive sports. Implementation of these guidelines and associated training should follow without delay in order to increase the safety of athletes and prevent serious after effects for their health.
