TRENDS IN THE UNITED-STATES PALLET INDUSTRY - 1980, 1985, AND 1990

All known firms manufacturing wood pallets in the United States during 1980, 1985, and 1990 were surveyed by the Department of Forestry, Southern Illinois University. The average annual production of pallets per firm increased from 112,000 in 1980, to 193,000 in 1985, to 221,600 in 1990. The number of firms also increased between the 1985 survey and the 1990 survey. The types and sizes of pallets most frequently manufactured, however, did not change. In 1990, the industry was producing at 70 percent of its production capacity. The data indicate that the pallet industry in the United States continues to be a growth industry.
