Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by a set of symptoms that include inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity, with a maladaptive and inconsistent intensity related with the developmental level of the child. This highly prevalent disorder significantly affects the patient's academic, social, and family development. Consequently, ADHD has attracted the interest of scientists who attempt to identify the brain's anatomical and functional indicators to support the clinical diagnosis and planning treatment. Although its etiology is multifaceted, explaining the phenotypic variability of ADHD, the evidence suggests that neurobiological factors namely, genetic-hereditary, neuroanatomy and neurochemistry factors, are the main causes of the disorder.
