THE LITERARY TRANSFER AT THE END OF 19TH CENTURY IN COLOMBIA: THE CASE OF JOSE ASUNCION SILVA

Silva has been considered as a leading figure in the assimilation of the artistic movements that gave rise to modernism. However, the few texts published during his life does not allow us to notice this literary transfer. If we accept that there exists in the Colombian poet a willingness to appropriate the European literary movements, also we must consider the possibility that Silva's literary transfer has been carried out by other means than books and presse. Our hypothesis is that the literary coterie became as the ideal platform for the Colombian writer to propagate the image of the decadent writer, which would become as the embodiment of the aesthetic ideals of modern literature.
