Training for rural settlements in the Region of Integrated Development of the Federal District

This study seeks to bring some issues concerning the process of occupation and the formation of rural settlements in the Region Integrated Development of the Federal District and Environs (RIDE). The field research was held in seven rural settlements four located in the region Sierra Foot in the municipality of Padre Bernardo (GO) and three settlements in the municipality of Buritis (MG). It conducted also interviews with key informants (MST leaders and representatives of rural workers' union). As a result it observed on the one hand, that the creation of settlements in the municipalities of RIDE is the result of pressure from social movements and of transformations occurred in recent decades in the region. And on the other, hand settlements end up generating new demands for infrastructure and services, attract public and private investment to the municipalities where they are inserted. In this way, rural settlements provide a new territoriality marked by the revaluation of rural areas.
