BELIEFS OF STUDENTS IN A CLASSROOM: IF TRANSLATION WAS...

Due to the growing interest in translation over the past years, the relevance of studies dealing with the teaching of translation at third level has been acknowledged. Those have to include issues which are concerned more specifically with student\translator's beliefs about translation. The present paper discusses the beliefs of university students\translators based on texts written by the latter during activities in which they could freely express their ideas about translation. The analysis of those texts allows us to assess to what extent the students adopt positions criticized as being traditional within the contemporary debate among scholars. Hopefully, such analysis can provide university teachers of translation and programme supervisors with valuable information concerning the teaching of translation in higher education institutions.
