1,2-DIMETHYLENECYCLOPENTANE AS A TRAPPING REAGENT FOR THE DETERMINATION OF SULFUR-DIOXIDE

摘要
The possible use of 1,2-dimethylenecyclopentane, DMCP, as a trapping reagent for sulphur dioxide has been examined. The proposed reagent would selectively absorb ambient SO2 and permits subsequent regeneration upon heating. The efficiency of absorption is better than 98% with a standard deviation 0.08 and the efficiency of regeneration is not less than 98.4% with a standard deviation 0.10. The reagent, DMCP, is not affected by many common air pollutants. It is superior to other absorbers with respect to selectivity, stability of the sulphone formed, ease of manipulation and nontoxicity. Practical modification at the analysis stage makes it highly desired for field studies.
