摘要
The Personal Handy-phone System (PHS) is a new communications service that combines the latest radio access technology, based on digital cordless telephony, with intelligent digital network capabilities. If marks an initial step toward the realization of personal multimedia communications. NTT is moving ahead vigorously with R&D activities aimed at achieving an early launching of PHS service. This article describes the PHS service concept, major technologies involved and related standardization activities, presents the results of PHS field trials and touches on future development prospects, especially multimedia applications.
