摘要：
This essay begins with an examination of the philosophical roots of Bruner’s constructivism and its recent application to the construction of self. The symbolic construction of mind as a part of self is drawn out for special consideration, and its roots in the history of philosophy and psychology are analyzed. The existence of internal mental states -a mind -is seen as a construction that arises at a particular time in history in a particular type of culture. The mind does not appear to be a universal human construction. © 1990 S. Karger AG, Basel.
