The transient hot-strip method is a technique for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and volumetric heat capacity. The basic idea of the method is similar to that of the transient hot-wire technique. A short-time quadratic approximation is available for the temperature rise of the electrically heated strip. However the information recorded in the short-time range is not sufficient for the properties evaluation in case of granular materials. In the present contribution a new technique is proposed for data evaluation within the whole time domain. As an example the thermal conductivity and diffusivity of some granular materials, quartz sand, Mg-powder and LaNi4.7Al0.3-powder, are determined.
