The effects of soil samples preparation methods and of the soil properties on the recovery of 3- and 4-rings PAHs were evaluated. Three PAHs (fluorene, anthracene and pyrene) were spiked and recovered from 5 soils at concentrations 5-20-mu-g.g-1 using the Soxhlet extraction method. Drying soil samples at temperature exceeding 20-degrees-C substantially increased PAH losses. Recoveries of PAHs from soils were influenced by PAHs' properties as well as by soil water content and organic matter amendment of the soils.
