Ionosphere's F2-layer Response to 2006 Geomagnetic Storm at Ilorin, Nigeria

A study of the response of some F2-layer parameters in the equatorial region of the African sector to an intense geomagnetic storm (Dst < -100nT) of December 14-16, 2006 was carried out using data from the ionospheric station at Ilorin (Lat. 8.53 degrees North, Long. 4.57 degrees East and Magnetic Dip 4.1 degrees South), Nigeria. Results show that the maximum electron density of the F2-layer experienced depletion through both day and night during the main and recovery phases of the storm. IRI-07 storm model still needs to be improved upon to account for the storm time changes in the F2-layer of the equatorial ionosphere during daytime.
