摘要
This paper analyses the novel Concerto Barroco (1974) by the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier as a baroque, or neo-baroque text that incorporates aspects of modernist 1920s anthropophagy, the use of carnivalization such as proposed by Mikhail Bakthin, and Marvelous Realism of the 1960s and 1970s. It does so through parallels between the three main characters of the novel and the Shakespearean metaphors of Prospero, Caliban, and Ariel.
