CITIZENS' ENGAGEMENT IN NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

摘要：
Understanding what generates the citizen engagement is a challenge for non-profit organizations. These organizations, in addition to receiving government funds also depend on citizens who donate their time, money, and among others. Thus, this study aimed to perform a systematic review of citizen engagement in non-profit organizations. For this purpose, we conducted a survey in the databases of the ISI Web of Knowledge and Proquest. After we analyzed the articles and performed the deletion process, 24 items were used in the systematic literature review. The results showed that this is a new field of study and we identified the first research being conducted in 2002, 67% of research took place in the North American context and 38% of research were empirical quantitative. Finally, we present the various influencers, difficulties and/or barriers and the results generated through citizens' engagement in non-profit organizations.
