摘要
The upper limits of theoretical conversion efficiency for a solar cell can be derived either through a thermodynamic argument involving energy and entropy balance, or through the detailed balancing of carriers generation and recombination in a semiconductor. Both approaches are equivalent and yield maximum efficiencies without needing knowledge of the cell design. Some examples and results are given.
