Fifteen years of experience with intracavitary hyperthermia in cancer therapy

The investigations which have attempted to develop the clinical intracavitary hyperthermia were reviewed. The detailed information concerning different technological approaches to the elaboration of devices for healing of deep-seated tumours is presented. The clinical results of application of intracavitary heating In the treatment of different tumours were shown. The advantages and disadvantages of this hyperthermia method were noted. Special attention was focused to use of hyperthermia in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It was proposed to continue the development of intracavitary hyperthermia with the aim to use widely this method in cancer therapy.
