摘要
African societies are changing from traditional to modern ways of life by adapting to the social, economic, and environmental changes taking place across the world. Most rural dwellers in Ghana depend on farming for their livelihoods. Entrepreneurship was not seen as a noble profession in the past as trading was the work of foreigners from other countries in the west Africa sub-region. The numerous military interventions depressed the economy between the 1970s and 1990s and this made Ghanaians to rethink small and medium businesses as employment avenues. Of their own accord many citizens entered into entrepreneurship because they saw trading as a viable option in making a living. As typical Africans who express themselves through music and dancing, songs are sung to teach both the youth and adults about the importance of business enterprises. This paper argues that entrepreneurship education can be provided to people informally through folk songs. Folksongs can encourage and educate both the youth and adults to start and run their own businesses to create jobs, reduce unemployment and contribute to the economic growth of Ghana. Five songs by different groups and individuals are analysed to show how work or business enterprises are taught and encouraged through folk music.
