UPBEAT END-OF YEAR BELIES MUTED OUTLOOK

Unforeseen events in the US and Far East boosted Europe's chemicals industry during 1994. Production was 5% above 1993 figures and exports were up 8%. But delegates at Cefic's first annual economic conference in Brussels heard that industry should be cautious about next year's figures.
