Ongoing ethical dilemmas in psychiatry continue in those areas in which legal and social interests compete with the profession's concern for patient welfare. This is especially highlighted by the psychiatric ethical problems raised by the recent renewed societal interest in euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.
