ROOM-TEMPERATURE ELECTRONIC OPTICAL NONLINEARITIES IN POLYCRYSTALLINE ZNSE

摘要
We have observed self-defocussing of nanosecond laser pulses in ZnSe near the band gap. The refractive cross-sections have been calculated from this in the wavelength range 470-476 nm. We have also carried out an experiment on degenerate four-wave mixing to calculate the effective nonlinear cross-sections in the same spectral range. The refractive cross-section has been measured to be as large as approximately 5 x 10(-20) cm3. Comparison with the three level band-filling theory indicates that the contribution from the dynamic Burstein-Moss shift dominates the refractive cross-section.
