RESEARCH SUPPORT FOR THE IRON AND STEEL-INDUSTRY BY THE ECSC

In the introduction, the development of the European Communities is presented. In the following the current policy of research support by the ECSC and the fundamentals of the programmes ''Steel Technical Research'' and ''Pilot and Demonstration Projects'' are described including the practical aspects of introducing an application. Subsequently, the activities in the field of continuous casting are discussed, with both research projects in the past ten years and recent projects being taken into consideration. Finally, a prospect to future activities is given with a view to the expiration of the ECSC treaty in the year 2002.
