A technicolor system with fundamental Higgs scalars is used to dynamically break SUc(3) × SUL(2) × UY(1) to SUc(3) × UEM(1) to provide quark-lepton masses, mq. The difficulties of technicolor with flavor-changing neutral currents and light pseudo-Goldstone bosons are avoided. The model requires supersymmetry to have a natural solution to the hierarchy problem. Unlike usual supersymmetric extensions of the standard model, the supersymmetry breaking scale, mss, can be up to two orders of magnitude larger than the Weinberg-Salam scale, MWS, thereby alleviating difficulties with rare processes such as μ → eγ and the KL - KS mass difference. The system can be used to establish a second hierarchy MWS/mq. The model suggests new interactions, new particles and a rich phenomenology from MWS to mss ≈ 10 TeV which should be accessible to the next generation of accelerators and the SSC. © 1990.
