MANAGEMENT OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND SOCIAL SKILLS IN UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENTS

This study aimed to analyze the use of social skills and emotional intelligence for students of the University Institute of Technology Extension Maracaibo Guajira Sub Region. To achieve this goal addressed the theoretical and covers Hidalgo and Abarca (2009), Santrock (2006), Caballo (2005), Kelly (2000), Goleman (1998) and Cooper (1998), among others. The research was analytical-descriptive, non-experimental design with a cross sectional study, stratified so selecting a sample of 91 students located in different semesters. To collect data using two Likert scales to measure skills and one another for emotional intelligence, validated by experts and same test was applied expert as pilot obtaining a high reliability of 0.89 and 0.96 respectively. Furthermore, the results were analyzed by descriptive statistics, showing a global management of social skills, however, components and nonverbal social interaction is identified with weakness in its development. As for emotional intelligence, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills are strengthened in their development, in contrast to the skills of influence, leadership and change catalyst, being dispersed outcomes between high and low with respect to the management of these by the sample under study. We conclude that the poor management of the components of social skills prevent college student interact effectively and efficiently, as well as decreases the actual value of people and capability approach responses by others, and whereas the they lack management, cognitive or emotional disturbance conducive, that hinder the establishment of favorable terms of trade.
