摘要
Objectives: To identify in the preoperative client expectations, feelings, needs and desires about the surgery and to indicate nursing interventions; to analyze risks of interest for nurses found in the pre-op; to discuss interventions against the risks identified for nurses. Methods: Descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The subjects interviewed were volunteers in a preoperative situation in an infirmary ward of an University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The work with the information gathered was grounded in the Bardin's content analysis. Results: Three analytical categories were created as indicators of care: 1) physical,- emotional, professional, family and religious feelings; 2) Confirmation of previous feelings and present expectations; 3) Desires, hope and orientation. Conclusion: The preoperative clients have feelings which can put their surgery at risk. The communication and orientation given by the nursing crew, according to client's statements, were considered failures. This in turn increases the risk in this phase, as the poor communication brings anxiety to the client, resulting in complications in the trans and post-op.
