SALIVA AS A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL FOR ORAL AND SYSTEMIC DISEASES. LITERATURE REVIEW.

The non-invasive nature of the salivary tests have made them an interesting and attractive alternative for clinicians much more than traditional laboratory tests such as hematology, hormonal profile, urine, and other drugs. In view of the ease of collection and the positive correlation between multiple parameters in serum and saliva, it is recurrent the salivary analysis as a diagnostic tool, for systemic and oral pathologies biomarkers diagnosis, such as, autoinmune disorders, bone turnover markers, cardiovascular disease, dental caries, periodontal disease, adrenal diseases, kidney, genetic, psychological, infectious, viral and fungal diseases, cancer, among others. Also, salivary sample analysis has advantages in phorensycs and occupational medicine. In Venezuela, it would be a promising route as an alternative for the diagnosis of certain diseases and as a mechanism to monitor certain diseases. It is suggested to make more national research, despite the difficulties, avocated to attend many patients that could be dispensed of a blood sample, and by easily harvestable and inexpensive salivary fluid, diagnose their condition.
