摘要：
The extraction of ore underground requires the most appropriate extraction method for the circumstances. The complexity and large amount of information that is usually required in assessing specific extraction methods mean that selection is best undertaken by someone with considerable professional expertise. An account is given of the construction of a prototype knowledge-based system, Minexpert, that simulates the judgments that might be made by such a person in selecting a mining method. The factors that influence the choice and the classification of methods used in the current version of the system are discussed.
