Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is one of the more common neurogenic pain syndromes. The typical presentation follows minor trauma to a limb and is characterised by a variety of autonomic, sensory and motor disturbances. Once established, this disorder is often difficult to treat successfully. This review describes the clinical featues, proposed pathophysiological mechanisms and current treatment of reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
