EFFECT OF CONCENTRATE INTAKE AND HERBAGE ALLOWANCE ON HERBAGE INTAKE AND PERFORMANCE OF GRAZING CHURRA EWES IN EARLY LACTATION

Eighteen 'Churra' lactating ewes grazed two different herbage allowance (1800 (H) and 1300 (L) Kg DM/Ha) were offered three levels ot barley (O(Bo), 300 (B3) and 600 (B6) g/day in a factorial experiment from lambing until day 30 of lactation, Herbage intake by ewes increased with grazing the high herbage allowance and decreased with increasing levels of barley supplement. Herbage intake (DMI) was 1121, 936, 720 g/ewe/day for HBO, HB3 and HB6 and 970, 785 and 480 g/ewe/day for LB0, LB3 and LB6 respectively.
