摘要
The Golden Cross gold-silver deposit is located in the Hauraki epithermal district of New Zealand. The purpose of this study is to characterize the geology and geochemistry of the deposit in order to constrain the environment of mineralization. An emphasis on oxygen isotopes of hydrothermal quartz and calcite is made in order to test relative permeabilities in this extinct hydrothermal system. Thus, the Golden Cross deposit provides a link between epithermal deposits of the Coromandel Peninsula and active geothermal systems of the Taupo volcanic zone, New Zealand. The total output from the Golden Cross deposit, mined from 1895 to 1920, was 157,674 metric tons of quartz which yielded 12,016 kg of bullion (with an estimated average gold-silver ratio of about 1:4. Exploration of the Golden Cross prospect is currently being conducted by Cyprus Minerals (N. Z. ), Ltd. 88 Refs.
