CD-ROMs are becoming usual media for storing reference works, collections of programs and multimedia products. Databases which until now were made only for specialists could now easily be distributed by CD-ROMs. A very interesting product is the CD-ROM of the ekz with the fulltext information of more than 100.000 short reviews of books in German and, in addition, videos, audio CDs, games, maps, etc. The following essay examines this CD in detail and shows its value as a comprehensive reference medium for everyone.
