WHAT CAN ORAL HYPOSENSITIZATION ACHIEVE

On the basis of published data from numerous clinical studies the success rate for oral immunotherapy is between 65 and 94%. The success is further improved by prolonging hyposensitization, and eventually corresponds with that obtained by injection therapy. Retrospective evaluation of the most recent data shows that these results are reproducible: for 158 mite-allergic and 104 grass pollen-allergic patients who underwent oral hyposensitization for several years clinical improvement was achieved in 83% and 81% of the patients respectively. Oral hyposensitization is regarded as being particularly suitable for children with allergic rhinitis since it causes little inconvenience and can be used from an early age. Late damage - in particular development of asthma and the appearance of irreversible damage to the respiratory tract - may be prevented.
