INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAWS FOR INDIA INDUSTRIAL-GROWTH - A DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE

The advantages accruing to India signing the Paris Convention for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are pointed out and discussed. Better intellectual property protection, especially in respect of Patents and Trademarks, may not only bring in increased foreign investment but also ensure easy and speedy transfer of advanced technologies much needed for the country's industrial progress. While it is true that some progress has already been achieved in India by enaction of Patent and Trademarks Laws, specially in respect of drug formulations and computer software, still much more remains to be done. Finally, the need for India to willingly sign the Convention for IPR is stressed in order to be in the mainstream of global technological development.
