FEATURES OF SOLIDIFICATION AND STRUCTURE FORMATION OF SLABS CAST ON CURVED MOLD CONTINUOUS-CASTING MACHINES

Features of macrostructure formation of slabs cast on a curved mould continuous casting machine have been determined and the influence of introducing narrow steel strip into the liquid sump on the slab structure produced has been demonstrated. The laws governing solidification speeds on different sides of the slab were found to depend on the metal superheat. The best regimes for introducing narrow strip of different chemical composition were found. In general, the technique could be used to produce substantial structural changes beneficial to the quality characteristics of the as cast and rolled metal.
