DECHLORINATION OF WATER BY SPENT ACTIVATED CARBON IN THE PROCESS OF WATER DEMINERALIZATION BY REVERSE-OSMOSIS

Results are presented from an experimental investigation of the process of water dechlorination by activated carbon, grade BAU-A, obtained as spent adsorbent in vodka production. The dechlorination process is accomplished by means of a chemical reaction taking place on the surface of the activated carbon. Equations are derived for the temperature dependence of the concentration of free chlorine in the solution and in the stream leaving the carbon column. Kinetic equations are derived for the process of dechlorination at various temperatures and flow velocities - equations that are needed for the design of the water-treating stage.
