A MEDIUM ENERGY ION-SCATTERING STUDY OF AU/PD(110) INTERFACE FORMATION

摘要
We have studied interface formation between a thin Au layer and a Pd(110) substrate. Using a new medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) facility, we show that direct information can be obtained concerning the quality and morphology of the epitaxial layer. The crystalline quality of the Au layer was improved by an anneal in the 300-400-degrees-C range. Interdiffusion occurs in this temperature region and from the shape of the spectra, it is clear that the Pd rather than Au, is the diffusing species.
