MEASURING THE GAS-EXCHANGE OF FRUITS HELD IN CONTROLLED-ATMOSPHERE

The concept of an open system using discontinnous control of flow to maintain constant partial pressure of carbon dioxide and oxygen, respectively, could be realised. Common measuring technique for concentrations is sufficiently precise. Combined with computerised data acquisition it results in much more constant values (+/- 0,01%) than in experimental CA. Nevertheless calculated O2-consumption and CO2-production were highly deviating. This is mainly due to changing atmospheric pressure and discontinuous control by fixed volumes. A system for small samples of 1 kg under constant pressure is proposed using continuous flow controllers.
